Why our tax experts are looking forward to the Virtual Summit event

Written by The Tax Institute | Nov 17, 2020 11:14:41 PM

We wrapped up the lead in event series for The Tax Summit: Project Reform today, with our final focus session, featuring a discussion of GST and indirect taxation.

Throughout the program of Focus sessions and Keynotes, we’ve heard some insightful perspectives, interesting queries and plenty of exciting ideas for the future of tax reform. All of this discussion has informed the agenda for our upcoming Virtual Summit event, over two half-days on 24–25 November.

The Virtual Summit brings everything together, so that tax leaders, tax practitioners and regulators can define the priorities for tax reform. It’s a chance for you to tell us what matters most to you.

With so much insight spanning the four reform pillars of Retirement & Wealth, Business Taxation, Personal Tax & Transfer and Indirect Taxation, we thought it might be time for a refresher. So we asked three of our in-house tax reform experts, for their take on the path to tax reform and building a case for change – so far.

Scott Treatt, CTA, General Manager, Tax Policy and Advocacy

Powerful insights from The Tax Summit: Project Reform so far…

“The conversation hasn’t just started, it has momentum! There is uniform acknowledgement that we have before us the most amazing opportunity for reform which all sides of Government need to embrace. The conversations, insights and ideas flowing from Project Reform demonstrate the calling for true reform for an efficient, effective and balanced tax system rather than mere tinkering in an attempt to rebalance a budget.”

Why the upcoming Virtual Summit event is so exciting…

“Hearing the debate regarding making the future possible – the challenges, obstacles and practical insights, including the role we each will need to play, to turn the discussion into reality.

There is something in this for everyone. For me I am looking forward to the comments and insights from the many Keynote speakers who will be joining us for our plenary sessions.”

On the tax reform journey so far…

“I’m amazed the amount of agreement not only of the urgent need for reform but what the key elements of that reform must look like. Of course, all stakeholders we have engaged agree that any reform must be guided by the principles of equity, fairness and simplicity.”

Looking forward to the Virtual Summit event…

“Never before has Australia seen so many great speakers and panellists come together at one time who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Tax Reform debate.
